There are two most likely causes of this issue:
By far, the most likely cause is that you are using the incorrect configuration app. We have TWO different apps, KBeacon and KBeaconPro. If you are experiencing repeated disconnection errors when trying to connect to the beacon to configure, you are probably using the wrong app for your beacon. Reread the Quick Start Guide for links to the correct app.
The second possible cause of repeated disconnections is that the beacon has been previously configured as “unconnectable”. While this saves 20% of the beacon’s battery power, it makes it a little difficult to work with. To connect to an unconnectable beacon, press the beacon button once quickly, then use the correct app to connect. The reason this works is because pressing the button once will put the beacon into temporary connectable mode for 15 seconds.
One additional possible edge case is that you may have previously set the beacon to unconnectable AND also configured the beacon with a single press trigger. So not only is the beacon unconnectable, but you also can NOT use the single button press trick to make it temporarily connectable (because clicking the button once executes the single press trigger that you previously configured rather than putting the beacon into temporary connectable mode).
In this case, in order to put the beacon into temporary connectable mode, first confirm the beacon is ON, then remove the battery, and immediately reinsert the battery. Now the beacon will be in temporary connectable mode for 15 seconds, during which time you can use the correct app to connect to it for configuring.
One final note: Some users are confused about beacons in general and attempt to use other apps to connect to the beacon as if it was a Bluetooth peripheral such as headphones or a keyboard. In short, this will never work as that is not how beacons function at the most basic level. You may be able to connect briefly, but will always be automatically disconnected after 20 seconds or less. Remember, beacons work WITHOUT connections. The only time you connect to a beacon is when you use our app to connect and configure the beacon. After that process is complete, you will never connect to the beacon again.
