Before you get started changing the battery in this beacon, it is recommended that you set up a working space on a wooden cutting board or similar wood piece. You don’t want to damage your beautiful desk or countertop of the screw driver slips during the process.
Similarly, take special care to never position the screw driver so that it is pointing at your hand or arm. That way, if it slips, you won’t hurt yourself.
The best type of screw driver is a flat blade screwdriver with a thin blade. A thin blade will slip between the two pieces of plastic housing easier.
Find the little slot on this side of the beacon. Insert a small thin bladed screwdriver and press the blade inwards and upwards; see the approximate angle in the image above. Once you have inserted the screw driver, using a prying motion to pry the upper housing section upwards until the two halves begin to separate. Is it better NOT to twist the screw driver at this spot, as that tends to damage the plastic and not accomplish anything.
Now that you have created a gap, slide the screwdriver to the right a bit, THEN use a twisting motion on the screwdriver to increase the gap.
Next slide the screwdriver step by step along the gap and use the same twisting motion to increase the gap gradually as you move around the sides of the beacon.
Separate the two halves of the housing, then remove the circuit board, remove and replace the battery, and reassemble the beacon by pressing the two halves back together. Be careful to not pinch your skin as the two halves go back together.
